May Festivals at Virginia Beach

As we move into the month of May, we are entering the prime vacation season at Virginia Beach, which includes a diverse array of festivals. Here are two coming up to put on your calendar. One of the most fun galas of spring is coming up on May 6 – the 12 th Annual Atlantic Coast Kite Festival . [caption id="attachment_1488" align="alignleft" width="283"] via Shore Integrated Media[/caption] Whether you are a flier or a spectator, you can expect to have a grand time at this event that appeals to all ages. Awards will be presented for the most unusual, biggest and funniest kite, along with the youngest and oldest flyer. In addition, American Kite Association members will perform kite routines set to music. Are you a novice at kite flying? No problem. “Each day “flight training” will be offered, where experienced flyers will teach all the fundamentals to newbies. SonRise Music Festival

On April 28 to 30, the sound of alternative music will fill the air at the SonRise Music Festival . [caption id="attachment_1479" align="alignleft" width="281"] via Virginia Beach[/caption] Top Christian artists, such as four-time Grammy nominee Mathew West, will sing inspirational songs; and other talented musicians will offer hip-hop and indie tunes. The event also includes a special guest speaker -- Harlem Globetrotter Seth Franco. Reality Church of Virginia Beach will be conducting a non-denominational service, complete with full band, at the beach on Sunday, April 30 at 10 a.m. You’ll find this family-friendly gala in the Cox Cultural Pavilion at 24th Street on the oceanfront. Admission is free, but the donation of a non-perishable food item for the homeless is encouraged. Food Events Coming Up in April

Virginia Beach is known for its seafood, but it has other mouth-watering dishes as well. You can look forward to two April events that permit you to sample some of the most popular area edibles. It is a competition among the city’s restaurants that focuses on a favorite local menu item – she crab soup. Attendees may sample the entries and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award. For those of us who grew up in the ‘60s, the music of that decade is magical. Cherry Blossom Festival

Everyone has heard of the beautiful cherry blossom trees that adorn our nation’s capital in the spring. Red Wing Park is the abode of 150 trees that will produce the exquisite flowers soon. Although the blooming time is short, lasting between four to ten days, it is absolutely glorious. On April 1, the city will host the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which will be a time of enjoying Japanese creative activities, music and martial arts demonstrations. The celebration is in honor of the goodwill friendship between the U.S. and Japan. Bring a blanket or chair for watching the performances.
