Weekly Beach Activities

Some activities at Virginia Beach, such as those below, are weekly affairs. However, regardless of when you come, you’ll always find much to enjoy at the waterfront. Family Great Adventure Series Every Thursday night, you can attend the Family Great Adventure Series , which involves using brains and brawn to unravel a mystery. Each episode has a different theme, such as Tropical Game Time on July 13 and Animal Detectives on July 27. Participants can choose to dress up as characters, and everyone who takes part in the endeavor gets a medal. The festivities also include games as well as a family movie shown on a giant screen. Hours are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the location is the beach between 20th and 30th Streets. Admission is free. Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion

Do you like to dabble in art? If so, Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion is an event you’ll love. On July 8, artists of all ages and skill levels will grab a 4’x 4’ space on the boardwalk to create a masterpiece. No fee is required to participate, but artists are asked to bring their own chalk. The artwork, displayed on two blocks, will be judged and prizes will be awarded in the categories of amateur, professional and youth. Even if you aren’t artistic, it will be fun to be a spectator. This year’s theme is Meet Me at the Movies. Symphony by the Sea Concert Series The first concert in the Symphony by the Sea series will be held on the beachfront at the 31 st Street Stage on July 6. During this event that is free and open to the public, pops music played by the Virginia Beach Symphony will fill the air. Our nation’s birthday is special at Virginia Beach because it was here that the first English settlers landed in 1607, right on our shores. The Quantico Marine Corps Band, one of the Marine Corps oldest musical ensembles, will perform classic and contemporary pieces to the delight of the thousands who will attend the event. Head down to the 24 th Street Stage, where you can listen to the rock band at 6:30 p.m. and the concert band at 8:15 p.m. Fireworks will follow at 9:30 p.m. Both concerts as well as the fireworks are free. Do you remember Woodstock, the famous music festival of the 1960s? If you missed that event, you can attend Sandstock , a beach-inspired version of it. Artists will perform legendary hits of Led Zeppelin, Boston, Red Hot Chili Peppers and others at two locations: the Hippy Dippy Stage and the Flower Power Stage.
