Pleasures that you can anticipate include listening to live music by the Beachnuts Band, participating in a cornhole tournament and eating scrumptious barbeque. Children will enjoy an array of activities and amenities such as the Bounce House, the Crime Solver’s Hunt and Caricature Drawing. Admission is $40 for adults and $10 for children. via Patriotic Festival Certain perks are associated with living in a military town like Virginia Beach. Some of the assets most cherished by area residents are the wonderful events hosted by the city that remind us of how blessed we are to be Americans. One of these is the upcoming Patriotic Festival scheduled for June 1 to 3. The three-day celebration of our armed forces will include concerts by national touring artists and military displays, as well as entertainment by a USO Show Troup and military bands. Admission is free. Hours are from noon to 11 p.m. The location is the 5 th Street Beach Stage at 500 Atlantic Avenue. via Beach Street USA By the time the last weekend in May rolls around, many kids are out of school and families are gearing up for vacation. Join the locals at Salute to Summer on May 25 to 27 as they welcome the season of warm temperatures and fun. It will feature free concerts by local and regional bands at three stages on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. What makes the event extra special is the touching tribute to the brave men and women who serve in the U.S. armed forces. This will come in the form of the Heroes Walk, which is a display of essays written by area high school students that are reproduced on banners for passersby to read. It will be a wonderful reminder of how grateful we are for the military’s sacrifices on our behalf. The weekend following Mothers’ Day offers three wonderful family events – the Strawberry Jamboree, the Beach Music Cruise-In Weekend and Pirate Weekend. All the galas are free. via Eventbrite Strawberry Jamboree On May 19, the Virginia Beach Farmers’ Market will host the Strawberry Jamboree. Live music from Dallas Band will entertain while attendees participate in an old-fashioned pie-eating contest and browse craft vendors. The celebration will have activities for children, too. Beach Music Cruise-In Weekend A nostalgic salute to the past, Beach Music Cruise-In Weekend, May 18 to 20, will feature live tunes from yesteryear, dancing under the stars and a display of classic cars.
