Atlantic Coast Kite Festival

Coming up on May 4, the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival will be held at 17 th Street Park. Campers at Virginia Beach KOA can choose to participate in the contest or just enjoy the visual feast involved in watching the brightly colored kites sail through the sky. Honors will be awarded to the contestant with the most unusual kite, the funniest kite and the largest kite. Admission is free. Broadway show tunes are among the best known and most beloved songs in American music. Fans of these tunes can head over to the Town Center on May 4, when they can listen to the community chorale’s presentation of Places Please: Spotlight on Broadway. It will be a wonderful evening of entertainment that will include themes form renowned shows like West Side Story, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. The show begins at 7:30, and the cost of admission is $14 to $18. She Crab Soup Classic

Attention, foodies! Crab lovers at Virginia Beach KOA won’t want to miss the East Coast She Crab Soup Classic on April 27. As seafood is the most popular cuisine in the area, delicacies from the sea will be celebrated at this event held at 24 th Street Park. The purchase of an $18 ticket will permit you to sample She Crab Soup from an array of restaurants and vote on your favorite entry. WaveDaze will be held on April 26 through 28 at the Oceanfront between 6 th and 12 th Street. This 3-day event will involve jet skiing. The comedian Nephew Tommy will appear at the Funny Bone Comedy Club from April 26 through 28. Admission is $25. Farm Bureau Live will present the Midwest Rock ‘N’ Roll Express on April 27. Town Fair at Town Center

On the first Saturday of each month from April through September, campers at Virginia Beach KOA can spend a lovely afternoon at the Town Fair, strolling around the Fountain Plaza and browsing through handmade merchandise and fair trade goods. Aside from shopping, try out one of Town Center’s restaurants and enjoy outdoor evening entertainment. The event is held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 20. Regent University will present Fiddler on the Roof on April 19, 21, 26 and 28, providing the community with a special theatrical treat. This play involving faith and family magically weaves dance, music and poignancy together, giving theatergoers an experience they will long remember. Songs like “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset” combine beautiful music with lyrics that touch the heart. Admission is $13 to $16. Martial arts competitions can be fascinating to watch. Campers at Virginia Beach KOA will have an opportunity to view such a contest on April 13 and 14 at the Judo Senior National Championships. The event will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, and the fee for a one-day pass is $13. The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts is often the scene of wonderful cultural entertainment. On April 14 a Mozart Requiem will be performed by talented musicians beginning at 2:30 p.m. Tickets range from $22 to $102. Are you in need of a good laugh? On April 5 and 6, the Sandler Center will host Girls Night: The Musical. Residents of Virginia Beach KOA will enjoy this tell-it-like-it-is show that delves into the past, present and future of a group of women friends. At times touching and other times hilarious, this play involves a journey back in time, including hit tunes from the 80s and 90s. Since its off-Broadway debut, critics from across the country have been giving the musical rave reviews. Tickets range from $45 to $52. When you think of spring in this area of the country, you think of beautiful cherry blossoms. On the afternoon of March 6, head over to Red Wing Park for the Cherry Blossom Festival, a delightful festivity involving traditional Japanese dance, music and martial arts demonstration.
