East Coast Surfing Championships

Mark your calendars for August 19 to 26, when the East Coast Surfing Championships will be held. Even non-surfers will enjoy watching the skill shown by the several hundred competitors who will be joyfully riding the waves.

Yet this grand celebration involves much more than surfing. It will also include volleyball, a street skate, skimboarding, live music, a swimsuit contest and food. Headlining performers will be The Original Wailers on Friday night and Matisyahu on Saturday night.
Admission is free. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The location is the beach between 1st and 10th Streets.
Leaping Lizard Café
Since our city is on the coast, you can enjoy wonderful fresh seafood in local eateries. One of the top-rated restaurants for lunch is the Leaping Lizard Café, which has delicious dishes and a fun ambiance. Summertime Water Fun

There is nothing like having a big, beautiful ocean for enjoying water spots; and in Virginia Beach, you have plenty of activity options. Aside from swimming and building sandcastles, you can engage in parasailing, jet skilling, surfboarding and kayaking. Anglers can fish from the pier, go on a charter fishing expedition or head to Rudee Inlet, Lynnhaven Inlet or Back Bay to enjoy their sport. Other activity choices include spending some time at a waterpark or taking an exciting whale-watching cruise.

Introducing Adventureworks

Thursday Night Family Adventures

On Thursday nights, the Virginia Beach waterfront will be the scene of the Family Great Adventure Series. The wildly popular weekly event is an interactive exploit, where participants endeavor to solve a mystery through brawn and brains. Afterwards, a movie is shown on a giant screen on the beach.

No admission is charged. Hours are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The location is the beach between 20th and 30th Streets.
Movie Nights
Every other Friday night, a free movie is shown at the Landstown Commons shopping mall. Peter Rabbit is scheduled for July 20, while Coco is scheduled for August 3. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Refreshments are available for purchase.
