Mark your calendars for October 21-23, when the Fall Family Festival will be held at Virginia Beach KOA. You won’t want to miss this wonderfully fun, family-friendly event that includes hayrides and pumpkin picking along with knockerball and carnival games. The Bunny Hutch, a local wildlife rescue service, will bring adorable critters to the park such as Junior, a 25-pound rabbit. One of the festival’s highlights is a costume party and DJ dance at night. Join our costume contest with judging in 3 categories: kids, adults, and pets. (Family-friendly costumes, please!) Hermit Crab Challenge

During this time of year the boardwalk has many family-friendly events that are fun for all. Coming up on July 27, the area will host the Hermit Crab Challenge, a lighthearted celebration that the New York Daily News has included in its ranking of the 10 Wackiest Festivals in the World. In the Crustacean Beauty Pageant, hermit crabs compete to see which contestant has the most creatively and beautifully decorated display. Winners of past years include entries done in imaginative themes like Spider Crab and Beauty and the Crab. But the event isn’t about beauty alone; it’s about speed as well. Another part of the festivity is the Crustaceous 500 Crab Races, a competition where the claw that makes it to the finish line first is awarded the prize. Another important event coming up on July 27 at the Farm Bureau is a performance by the Dave Mathews Band.
