Hermit Crab Challenge

Image
During this time of year the boardwalk has many family-friendly events that are fun for all. Coming up on July 27, the area will host the Hermit Crab Challenge, a lighthearted celebration that the New York Daily News has included in its ranking of the 10 Wackiest Festivals in the World. In the Crustacean Beauty Pageant, hermit crabs compete to see which contestant has the most creatively and beautifully decorated display. Winners of past years include entries done in imaginative themes like Spider Crab and Beauty and the Crab. But the event isn’t about beauty alone; it’s about speed as well. Another part of the festivity is the Crustaceous 500 Crab Races, a competition where the claw that makes it to the finish line first is awarded the prize. Another important event coming up on July 27 at the Farm Bureau is a performance by the Dave Mathews Band. This group is one of the top draws on the concert circuit, as it has a strong grassroots following who enjoy their eclectic shows. The ent...

Cape Henry Lighthouse

Image
On Father’s Day weekend, Dad would probably like nothing better than to camp at Virginia Beach KOA with the family. Although our park offers many activities, a wonderful off-site outing would be a visit to Cape Henry Lighthouse, which has silently guarded the entrance to Chesapeake Bay since 1792. Authorized by George Washington, it is one of the oldest lighthouses in the country, guiding ships to a safe harbor for over two centuries. Climb to the top of the tower for fabulous views of the bay and Atlantic Ocean. You can show your appreciation for Dad by treating him out to a nice dinner in town. One of our picks for a special meal is a restaurant called “One Fish Two Fish.” Known for being “upscale without the uppity,” it is located on the beautiful Lynnhaven River and features steak, seafood and more. We invite you to give Dad a relaxing memorable weekend at our park. Visit our website and book your spot today.
