Instead of fighting the crowds in Washington D.C., you can enjoy this annual display of nature right here in Virginia Beach. Red Wing Park is the abode of 150 trees that will produce the exquisite flowers soon. Although the blooming time is short, lasting between four to ten days, it is absolutely glorious.
On April 1, the city will host the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which will be a time of enjoying Japanese creative activities, music and martial arts demonstrations. The celebration is in honor of the goodwill friendship between the U.S. and Japan.
Bring a blanket or chair for watching the performances. The hours are from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the address is 1398 General Booth Boulevard. Admission is free. The afternoon will be an interesting opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture.
When you are strolling through the park, be sure and stop at the Peace Monument, a nine-foot tall boulder that symbolizes the eternal prayer for world peace. It’s construction of 30,000 pounds of rock taken from the mountains of Tennessee.
