Family Great Adventure Series

via vabeach.com Thursday nights are a blast at Virginia Beach because of the games and contests that are a part of the Family Great Adventure Series. The interactive exploits involve dressing up as characters and trying to solve a mystery. Afterwards, everyone settles down on the sand to enjoy a family-friendly movie shown on a giant screen. Each night’s pre-movie activities are themed to go with the movie being shown. Every participant gets a medal. Admission is free. Hours are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The location is the oceanfront at 29 th Street. Ynot Wednesdays While Thursday nights in the city are fun, Wednesday nights are also most pleasant. Throughout the summer, the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts hosts a summer concert series outdoors on Wednesday evenings. Each performance features a different band, and the music will vary from Motown to country to rock. Food is available for purchase. The event also includes children’s activities and artisan vendors.

July Pleasures

These galas that are scheduled throughout the year have become part of the local cultural landscape. Make Plans for July 4th

The big celebration hosted by the city, as well as the fun activities at the campground will give you a grand time. Stars and Stripes Explosion On July 4, come enjoy the Stars and Stripes Explosion, which features the great music that has been part of the weft and woof of America for decades. Tribute bands will perform beloved patriotic songs, movie themes, folk music and Broadway standards on 4 stages along the waterfront. If you’d like to hear traditional July 4 th music, head to the 24 th Street Stage. The star-bangled climax will involve a spectacular fireworks display of vibrant bursts of color over the ocean. Sandstock – A Tribute to Rock & Roll

On June 28 to 30, our fair city will host a beach-inspired version of these concerts. You can expect to see performances from some of the greatest rock musicians and groups in history such as Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Boston. Admission is free. Concerts on Friday and Sunday start at 5:30 p.m., and the concerts on Saturday start at 1 p.m. The location is at two dueling stages on the beach at 24 th Street. Honey Festival A sweet affair is scheduled at the Virginia Beach farmers’ market on June 22 – the Honey Festival. The gala will offer live music, children’s activities and a craft show, along with the opportunity to visit with beekeepers. Come enjoy this family event and pick up a jar of honey to take home. Raw honey is terribly healthful, and it’s delicious mixed into a cup of hot tea or poured over biscuits. Admission is free. Hours are from 10
