Western Weekend

Yee Ha! Western Weekend is coming up August 3 through 5, so rummage through your closet to rig up a country-western outfit to wear to the festivities. On the patio, we will have line dancing to country music. If you’ve never tried this kind of dancing, it’s actually very easy. The event is a good opportunity to let your hair down and have some down-home fun. As always, the nearby beachfront will have a seemingly endless array of entertainment. Friday night at 8 p.m., the latest in the free summer concert series will be held, featuring a band playing the music of Elton John and Billy Joel. An alternative concert on Friday night is a program honoring the life and music of Ella Fitzgerald, held at the 13 th St. Virginia Legends Walk Stage Our park and nearby community is a place where there is never a dull moment. Death by Chocolate

If you are a chocoholic – and few people aren’t—you couldn’t pick a better time to stay at Virginia Beach KOA than the weekend of July 27 to 29. This Death by Chocolate event will celebrate the joy and delight of this delectable food through an array of activities that includes competitions and chocolate slip ‘n slide. Mid-Atlantic Hermit Crab Challenge

The nearby beach will be scene of a unique event on July 21 st that could be likened to a crab beauty contest. Residents of Virginia Beach KOA can attend the Mid-Atlantic Crab Challenge, an event that made the New York Daily News top ten list for wackiest celebrations in the world. You may be thinking something like “If you’ve seen one crab, you’ve seen them all.” Well, not necessarily. The crabs in this contest have creatively decorated displays. Moreover, the winner won’t be just another pretty face. Aside from the most beautiful crab winner, trophies will be awarded to the friendliest, shyest, and biggest, as well as the most traveled and athletic. What a hoot! Back at the campground, July 20 th to 22 nd is designated Carnival Weekend, and will involve face painting, duct tape and gyroscope, along with games, hot dogs and pony rides. Water Weekend

During these scorching hot days of record-breaking heat, cool off in a fun way at our H20 Weekend Part 1 on July 13 th to 15 th at Virginia Beach KOA. You can try out the Dunk Tank or participate in pool games. Or you may prefer our unique Water Wars Jet Fighter. Frozen treats are another time-honored way of beating the heat during summer. Visit The Skinny Dip in town and try frozen yogurt flavors like Key Lime Tart, Island Banana or Carrot Cake. If you’re very hungry, go all out and get the sundae that comes with fresh fruit and pound cake. An interesting attraction to visit in the area is the Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin, a maritime science museum. Included are hands-on exhibits, guided tours and films on a giant screen, as well as battleship exhibits and the Hampton Roads Navel Museum. Light Up the Night

Much merriment will be had on July 6th to 8th, when campers at Virginia Beach KOA take part in “Light Up the Night” weekend. Activities will include a glow in the dark parade, glow miniature golf and a flashlight candy hunt. The highlight will be a Light Up the Night Dance, so brush off those dancing shoes and prepare to cut a rug on the dance floor. On the evening of July 6th on the beach at 17 th St. Park, the band Hotel California will provide a free concert paying tribute to the Eagles. This rock group, which debuted in the 70s, had many hit songs and won many music awards. Those interested in art will enjoy the Chalk the Walk Art on July 7 th on the boardwalk. On this day, hundreds of artists will gather to transform the boardwalk into a canvas of paintings, where compositions will be inspired by Andy Warhol portraits.
