Get Ready for Polar Plunge 2020

via Special Olympics Virginia
If it’s February in Virginia Beach, it’s time for the annual event called Polar Plunge, when hearty souls run several miles and then take a dip in the icy-cold waters of the ocean. While the goal of the gala is to raise money for the Special Olympics, it’s actually a grand mid-winter party that includes a parade down the boardwalk, costume contest and live music. In addition, it will have a marketplace featuring the creative works of artisans. The temperature is likely to be brisk, but attendees can warm up with free hot chocolate and coffee.

If you’d like to participate in the plunge, the fee is $100, which goes to the charity. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The address is 3001 Atlantic Avenue.

Sugar Plum Bakery

The name Sugar Plum Bakery conjures up enticing images of gorgeous cookies, cakes and pastries; and once you visit, this gastronomic fantasy becomes a delightful reality. Locals have been coming here for many years to satisfy their sweet tooth because the treats are unfailingly melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious. Try the French toast, scones or donuts for breakfast; and pick up an apple fritter for a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. After you sample the goodies, visions of the delectables will keep dancing in your head. The address is 1353 Laskin Road.
