Ring in the New Year

Come to Virginia Beach to celebrate the arrival of 2018, as the locals know how to throw a great party.

On December 31, the city will host Last Night on the Town, a gala with live music and dancing. The event will start with family amusements that include jugglers, magicians and a mad science workstation, as well as crafts and costumed characters. It will be held at Pembroke Mall from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Afterwards, the entertainment will begin at Town Center, which will culminate with a laser show. The group 10,000 Maniacs!, one of the most acclaimed bands of recent decades, will headline the band performances.

Admission is free, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. The address is 222 Central Park Avenue.

Messiah Sing-a-Long

One of the most moving things you can do during the Christmas season is to listen to The Messiah, an incomparable musical production that countless people down through the ages have treasured. On December 23, a free Messiah sing-a-long concert will be offered at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. The scriptures of the birth of Christ set to majestically brilliant musical scores are truly a thing of exquisite beauty.

Hours are from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The address is 201 Market Street.
