Cape Henry Lighthouse

Lighthouses must be one of the most beloved sights in all the world. The very thought of one conjures up a feeling of security, as you picture beams of light cast upon the water, guiding sailors to a safe harbor.

Surely, over the course of decades and centuries, they must have saved many lives.

The original Cape Henry Lighthouse was built in 1792, and a second one was built in 1881. Visitors can tour the older building, and those who are in good physical condition can climb the steps to the top to feast their eyes on an amazing view. The attraction has many signs posted that provide historical information.

It is located on an active military base, so IDs are required and vehicles are inspected. The address is on Atlantic Avenue in Fort Story, Virginia. Open hours are from sunrise to sunset.
