On January 20 to 22, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation will present a Winter Wildlife Festival.

The entertaining, educational event is a good opportunity to learn about the wildlife that make their abode in our area. Some of the excursions are already filled up, so check the website to book the ones in which you are most interested.

The Princess Anne Recreation Center will be the venue for the non-excursion part of the festival on January 21. Attendees can browse through environmental displays, attend workshops and see live animals. Children’s activities will be available at the neighboring library. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., you may also purchase eats from Ferg’s Missing Ingredient, a local food truck.

You may sign up for a birding workshop, Chesapeake Bay boat trip and waterfowl walk, as well as nature and close-up photography seminars. Other options include a Cape Henry Tour, owl prowls and a tram ride through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, along with whale- and seal-spotting adventures. Some of the events are free, while others charge admission.
