Beach Blast in Virginia Beach

Some of the best Division III college softball teams are gathering in Virginia Beach this coming weekend for the annual Beach Blast softball tournament. This event will draw 28 teams from across the U.S. and is hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. Games will be contested Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 1, at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex. The Princess Anne Athletic Complex is located in the heart of Princess Anne Commons across the street from the Virginia Beach Sportsplex and Farm Bureau Live Virginia Beach Amphitheater. Partnered with the city of Virginia Beach, the Beach Blast is one of the most successful DIII softball tournaments across the country. [caption id="attachment_651" align="aligncenter" width="600"] King Neptune bronze statue in Virginia Beach[/caption] One of Virginia Beach’s favorite Boardwalk attractions is King Neptune, a colossal 34-foot-high bronze statue that rises from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean at 31st Street and Atlantic Avenue, overlooking Neptune Park. The King Neptune statue was built in honor of the Neptune Festival, which is held each September. Volunteers of the popular annual Neptune Festival wanted a statue that honored the festival. They raised private funds and commissioned Richmond artist and sculptor Paul DiPasquale, who designed and created the massive statue. It was dedicated in September 2005.
