Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin

No vacation in our area would be complete without a visit to Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin, a maritime science museum in Norfolk. Only about a half hour’s drive from Virginia Beach KOA, this amazing attractive permits visitors to learn about the sea through interactive exhibits. The Battleship Wisconsin is a majestic ship that played an important role in WW II, earning five battle stars. In addition to tours of this ship, the facility houses many diverse exhibits that provide an all-encompassing view of the ocean, ranging from sea creatures to maritime commerce. Included is an exhibit portraying the destructive power of a tsunami, as well as one depicting the 1907 Jamestown Exposition.  Another exhibit on the modern navy has computer simulated games, along with navy personnel describing their jobs. A well-known art destination in the area noted for work of unmistakable quality is the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. Bowfire Holiday Heart Strings

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts will be the scene of a broad spectrum of wonderful holiday music at 8 p.m. on December 22. Residents of Virginia Beach KOA can attend Bowfire Holiday Heart Strings, a program performed by a group of renowned fiddlers who play in many genres and have appeared on PBS. Featured selections will include “So This is Christmas,” “The Nutcracker Suite” and “Sleigh Ride,” and the audience will be taken on a journey that includes rock and jazz, as well as classical and Bluegrass. Tickets for this must-see entertainment range from $29 to $65. On December 24, Swan Terrace will have a Christmas Eve Dinner buffer accompanied by live music. The executive chef will prepare turkey and stuffing, along with many other delicious dishes. Reservations are required and the price for an adult is $38.95. Holiday POPS – Virginia Symphony

The Christmas spirit will fill your heart as you listen to traditional carols and holiday favorites performed by the hometown orchestra and Virginia Symphony Chorus. On December 14, a different variety of music will be presented by the Trans Siberian Orchestra as they perform Wizards of Winter, a spectacular holiday tribute. The Nutcracker

When we think of the traditional sounds of Christmas, one of the first musical pieces that come to mind is The Nutcracker, a beautiful fantasy that blends ballet with Tchaikovsky's scores and the wonders of childhood. Campers at Virginia Beach KOA can experience this event at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on December 8 at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. Those who attend the matinée can choose to stay for an exclusive tea party that follows. Tickets for this will be sold separately.
